Welcome to the latest 4PLAS newsletter, this month we highlight one of our high performance 4TECH® materials.
 
In light of the tragic events of 14th June 2017 when the Grenfell Tower caught fire, we focused our attention on developing solutions that could prevent the loss of life if such a situation ever arose again.
 
4TECH 9L29945 FR1 was developed to perform in a specific high heat environment.  The remit was to withstand 700℃  for 30mins as part of a buildings fire safety system.
 
When a building catches fire the rooms and corridors have to be sealed in order to stop the spread of fire and smoke throughout to structure.  4TECH 9L29945 FR1 was designed to maintain its physical integrity long after traditional polymers have burned or melted.  The exact mechanics of how we obtained this performance is proprietary but the parts manufactured from this grade met and outperformed the remit when tested.  4TECH 9L29945 FR1 basically turns into a “concrete” like material in a high heat environment enabling doorways and buildings to remain sealed.
 
The white part is our 4TECH 9L29945 FR1 and the brown was a development grade.
4TECH 9L29945 FR1 processes as a standard crystalline polymer compound but its performance when exposed to high temperature and fire is exceptional.
